Good architecture makes a difference, with all elements - houses, landscapes, rooms, furniture, fixtures, streets and districts - providing the framework for a sustainable lifestyle. Driven by curiosity, we explore what is possible but seldom imagined. We pool our extensive resources, knowledge and skills to find solutions that work for today as well as the future.
It is a great privilege to design someone’s home. It must be done with sensitivity and the will to create the very best. Successful housing solutions, both urban and rural, are developed through an understanding of who will live there. We prefer to initiate a dialogue rather than provide ready-made solutions.
Housing is one of our core areas and we create housing for all ages, from student to retirement. In several of our cities, we have created residential environments for all ages, from student housing to residential homes. One of the new challenges we face is to renew existing housing stock. We have a strong will to meet this challenge. Recently we have initiated our own residential developments as a platform to experiment with new architecture solutions and financial models to bring new ideas to the housing market.
Caring for and improving our architectural heritage requires commitment, knowledge and experience. Our team comprises heritage specialists and building engineers with experience of restoration and sensitive refurbishment. Our great challenge is to adapt or retrofit existing environments and buildings for new activities whilst meeting modern requirements of accessibility, safety, the environment and energy and conservation.
Our services in this sector include providing management support in building technology and conservation, historical and cultural research, documentation and evaluation in accordance with building regulations.
Our ability to shape successful marketplaces comes from extensive experience in sustainable city planning and landscape architecture. Through close collaboration with clients, end users and stakeholders, we create commercial centres that are sustainable in the long term: socially, financially and environmentally.
In the knowledge that the future shape of our cities is affected by infrastructure, we take a holistic approach to its development. Our focus lies in the interaction of the city, its infrastructure and traffic planning when designing new rail stations, transport hubs, tunnels and bridges.
Infrastructure projects offer the opportunity to contribute to sustainable urban development and we engage in projects, which promote the use of public transport that is integrated, attractive and safe.
Today, our city centres are increasingly denser, and many of the existing buildings need upgrading to modern standards. We have extensive experience of designing new buildings and adapting existing office buildings.
We currently have several projects focusing on retrofitting older office buildings. Our team of specialists enables us to work at all stages, creating flexible, creative work environments which meet today’s requirements of access and sustainability.
Designing cultural buildings such as libraries, concert halls and exhibition spaces present the opportunity to be expressive and reflect contemporary culture.
At White, we work on a range of projects within the cultural sector, from new building to interiors and exhibition design. We are renowned for the design of several naturum for the Swedish National Environmental Protection Agency, from the Vattenriket Visitor Centre in Kristianstad in the south to the World Heritage High Coast to the north.
We create spaces that promote well-being. Social and recreational spaces don’t just benefit people, they also sustain cities, whether it is a local youth centre or an arena with a capacity for 40,000. Often, nature is a backdrop for what we do, such as in the award-winning Kastrup Sea Bath.
The projects we work on range in their complexity, but they all present us with one exciting and important challenge; to promote activity and inspire great experiences. Designing meeting-places for inspiring activities and great experiences.
Whether it’s a two-year-old at nursery school, a pupil at elementary school or a researcher at the university, well-designed environments work inspire creative thinking and learning. We believe good architecture is a precondition for high-quality education in our schools and that school facilities can play a greater role as a meeting-place for knowledge, education, culture and leisure in our society as a whole.
We design everything from nursery schools to large, complex college and university buildings, from strategic facility planning through to specification of interiors. We achieve the best results through working in close collaboration with clients and end-users.
Spearheaded by the New Karolinska in Solna, White is the leading architectural office for healthcare projects in Scandinavia. From large scale university hospitals to small care units, sustainability remains a key driver.
We create attractive care environments, centred around the patients, their families and healthcare staff in the belief that good architecture is built on humanism, empathy and commitment.
